Poems of Wild Wonder
As I followed my boys around this past summer in the hopes that they would find things of wonder on their own, I was filled to the brim with inspiration for the WILD WONDER collection. Our summer was packed with wonder-filled moments that I had to share with all of you, not only in painted form but with my own words as well. For each painting in this collection, I also wrote a poem highlighting the inspiration I found within them. Let me share them with you now!
MORNIG HERALD
The dawn
Does break
The sun
Arises
A new day
Of life
Begins
A joyful song,
Your heralding makes
A cheerful hymn
Upon our ears.
Whilst pinks and purples
Stain the sky,
A broadening of wings.
You streak across
The sky, enlightened
The morning air a rustle
On your iridescent feathers.
You’re always there
To greet the day
To draw forth
Child’s sweet smile.
(Even when you squawk,
At us, that breakfast’s been awhile)
The joyful way
You start each morn
Brings vigor
To our veins
We’re here to see
Your swift return
Anon.
Anon.
Anon.

Flight of Fancy
To the song
Of wind
Flowers sway
A joyful dance
Of life,
Unstrained
As petals
Unfurl
And colors ‘bound
A calling
Of the hearts
Begins to sound
A beat of wings
Your silent flight,
A dance
Upon
The sun’s bright light
You swoop
On in,
You flutter ‘round.
You are
The fairy
Of this realm
You are
The magic
We’ve discovered.
Your flight
Of whimsy
Brings a kiss
A heartfelt
Declaration
Upon the flower that you sit
A noble
Demonstration
On freedom,
Life,
And love
Combined
On Soul’s
Awakened wonder
To while,
Awhile
To live,
Sublime
To love,
A flight
Of fancy.

There Is Beauty In The Weeds
Down
In the meadow
I run to you.
I pause upon
An indrawn breath,
I open up my eyes.
I notice your
Trust, as
Your very heart
And very life
Are carried on the winds.
Steadfast and resilient
You remain,
When tossed upon the crag.
Beauty
Unexpected
Exploding from the ground
I come to you with
Heart turmoiled
I sit amongst
Your grace
I marvel at
Your wonder.
You murmur,
Quiet strength,
I gather it to me.
You sing a song
Of knowledge
One, I am meant to hear.
A soothing balm
To my weary soul.
I will hold on,
Dear.
For I am
Thankful,
Grateful,
Blessed
To know that
You are near.

Emerging Majesty
I went upon a flight of fancy
Over hill and yon
I followed you on the wings of fate
Through a flowered lawn.
I watched you dance upon sun beams
And kiss the bright blue sky
Then flutter through my dreams
A multitude of times.
I watched you grow
I watched you change
I watched you get your wings
I watched as you, alone
Did unimaginable things.
I thank you for your peacefulness
Your quiet, unassuming beauty
I thank you for the joy you brought
Unto my homes sweet bounty.
I thank you for the light you bring
When times are dark inside.
Elizabeth Harness
If I Was a Bird
I take to wing
Upon
The sultry summer airs.
My flight is slow,
At first
A quiet drift
From tree to tree
A silent lift
Of my wing.
A gust of wind
Upon my breast
My flight is faster,
Now.
The breeze,
It shifts
My feathered wings
The soaring
Has begun.
A playful dance
Through suns bright beams.
A swim though
Dazzling blue.
A throated call
From deep within
A swooping dive
To meet a friend.
The sights of Earth
Restrained,
No more.
The joys
Of flight,
Unfettered.
The quiet-tude
Of solitude.
The soul’s
Rejuvenation.
